Youth bull riding is exciting, especially when we
realize that these kids are the makings of future PBR, CBR, IPRA
and PRCA champions. In early 2008 we sold a 2006 belted bull to
the Thomas family of Cordell, OK, to use as a youth bucking
bull. He is 3/4 Lowline, a spinner, and unridden from
about 6 outs. After watching this bull "SPIN TOP"
(now in Utah) and the
enthusiasm of the kids and parents, we decided to add a few mini
bucking stock cows to our program. It's been fun from the start.
We believe our youth need good
dispositioned bulls to learn on, so we are staying with true
miniature breeding, NO stunted bulls. Many producers of
so-called "mini" bucking bull events are using stunted big bulls
with bad attitudes and these are dangerous to the kids. There is
plenty of time for those bulls after the riders are older and
experienced.
Shown above is the main sire for our mini bucking
stock herd. ARMAGEDDON, a 42" 2005 model, came off the
Hatch Farm in Washington state. We purchased him at age 3 from a
dealer in Iowa. ARMAGEDDON has a super nice disposition at home,
likes his back scratched and eats from my hand, but is a
serious bucker and not suitable for a beginning rider.
We also have some nice weanling bulls in
the pasture, and a couple of older bulls which have already
been used for beginning riders. Some are for sale.
